Choosing the Right Essential Oils for Your Hair Sinking into a plush chair, I was offered a cool drink (a non-alcoholic one. Frowny face) and asked to choose an essential oil from out of four – lavender, peppermint, rosemary and bergamot. Once selected, my “Curist”, Ms. M, led me to a comfortable Yume (to dream) reclining chair and gently washed and pat-dried my hair, getting all the city dirt and grime out. Ms. M proudly holding her “curist” diploma. Guided back to the plush chair, Ms. M blended bergamot oil with some argan oil to make a fragrant concoction for a much-needed twenty-minute head massage. The oils in the massage help to rehydrate and cleanse the scalp of any undesirables. A “curist” is a new Japanese word coined for a specialist in handling the head cure treatment. The knowledge and skill one must acquire in order to be qualified is extensive. The honey packs in all their glory. You have two options – honey with brown sugar (which is most effective for white hair), and the other, honey with a minty twist. The internationally-trained staff is more than capable of giving their customers the best hair services possible, as international residents and tourists make up 40% of their clientele. The staff is also very familiar with imported products like Goldwell and Redken. With this information in mind, our hair models were very excited to try Hayato’s ‘anything you like’ package, where they could relax and fully trust their stylist to take care of their hair. One of the hair models wanted a digital perm – a unique Japanese hair perm, while our second model opted for a double-process hair color, a conditioning treatment, and a haircut. Great Deal for Japanese Digital Perm So what exactly is a digital perm? Created and perfected in Japan, the digital perm uses heat to give the hair its shape memory and it also strengthens the condition of the hair. It gives hair a 3-D effect with flexible waves and curls, without making the hair stiff or dull – and its effects are extremely long-lasting. Let’s see the process for ourselves on our first hair model. Digital perm chemicals being applied to the hair Our first model wanted to shake up her very long and somewhat lifeless tresses with some bouncy curls as well as a boost of shine. After a detailed hair analysis by the stylist, it was decided that the digital perm would be the perfect treatment for what she wanted, and he proceeded to prep her hair for the treatment. First, the chemicals were carefully applied to her hair and given time to set. With expert blow drying and finger-curling techniques by the stylist, the digital perm was completed and left our hair model looking gorgeous with her new look. New York Style Hair Color with Highlights Our next beautiful model is a young Asian-American woman with previously-bleached hair. She came hoping that she could have a fun look without damaging her hair further, and her stylist did everything possible to deliver. The stylist took special care to only apply bleach to her virgin hair, including avoiding folding the foil to keep the application precise. After washing out the bleach, the stylist created the perfect shade of purple to match the photograph our model brought in. After applying the dye to the bleached ends, the end color is an amazing dip-dye/gradation of bright purple! Both our hair models felt completely relaxed knowing that they were being given 5-star service by Hayato’s hair experts – and wouldn’t hesitate going back for another change in their look.
