Hidden away on a small backstreet in Daikanyama, you’ll have quite the adventure looking for this place. But the results are more than worth it! Boy Attic, a boutique salon under boy Inc., was founded by renowned stylist Mogi Masayuki. With just a handful of chairs, you are guaranteed an uninterrupted and genuine experience.
Contrary to what you may normally imagine an attic to look like, Boy Attic Daikanyama has tall ceilings. Paired with the white walls and eye-catching artwork hung overhead, space feels bright and airy. The atmosphere encourages the artsy stylists to create new and innovative looks for their discerning clientele.
Trust in an Old Friend
The model arrived and was warmly greeted by stylist Kaori Yamamichi. We soon found out they had been friends for years. Kaori met the model, an artist from Finland when they bonded over art and the creative process. They even collaborated on projects in the past.
Kaori had cut the model’s hair previously, so the model was comfortable telling her what she wanted. As the model showed hair inspiration from Pinterest, Kaori listened and sketched a hairstyle she envisioned for her friend.
Clarify With Carbonation – Bubble Massage Shampoo
After the consultation, an assistant led the model to the washing station. She saturated the model’s hair with carbonated water and began to work in the shampoo with long strokes. Boy Attic uses boy Original products, which are formulated with natural ingredients to clarify the hair and scalp while delivering moisture and shine. The shampoo, Orange Grapefruit Bergamot, has a refreshing and uplifting scent. After that, the assistant washed out the shampoo with more carbonated water. The bubbles work to reduce frizz while washing away all the built up product for soft and shiny hair. The assistant then towel dried the model’s hair while massaging her head and neck.
Japanese Haircut an Artwork
Relaxed and with clean hair, the model returned to her hair for the haircut. Kaori began by drying the model’s hair with a blowdryer. While doing so, they chatted about art and architecture. Once the model’s hair was dry, Kaori began the cut.
Using a one-handed technique, Kaori snipped away at the models locks, occasionally taking a step back to look at the overall shape and balance of the haircut. The model’s hair began to take shape.
With the haircut done, Kaori curled and styled her friend’s hair. She used Boy Original’s Bunny Hair Balm, a moisturizing wax made with olive oil, shea butter, and beeswax. Finishing up, Kaori gave the model tips to style the look at home. When asked about the experience, the model said she felt at ease putting her hairstyle in her friend’s creative hands. Attic offers a place where she can get inspiration for future projects.
