Ever since Nepenji was opened more than 20 years ago, the salon owner, Kiyoko Matsuzawa, has traveled back and forth between the US and Japan. Previously a stylist at DevaCurl Devachan Hair Salon in New York, she now solves problems of her diverse domestic and international clientele as a curly hair specialist, oftentimes pulling them out of hair styling ruts. She learned how to cut and style curly hair while working in New York, and she brought these skills back to Nepenji. She believes these international experiences improve the quality of the service offered at the salon. Today, Nepenji has a great reputation as a hair salon specializing in curly hair, which reflects on its ever-growing international clientele list. From a curly hair specialist to a colorist and a makeup artist, the salon has staff with diverse specialties and personalities. Together, they warmly welcome their clients of equally diverse hair types. They also have a branch Unsarto salon in Omotesando.

After working at a hair salon in a first-class hotel, Yoshino attended the Aveda Institute in San Francisco to obtain a California Cosmetology License. She specializes in cutting and coloring curly hair. Yoshino carefully observes each curl and provides her clients with the best haircuts and colors to accentuate each individual curl.
