Annie’s thick and naturally wavy hair type is difficult to maintain and full of volume,a tough situation in Japan where humidity reaches 100%. This is why she decided to go for the Japanese Straight-Cure treatment experience, as the natural perm will leave her hair straight and smooth without diminishing hair quality. After assessing her hair condition and before starting the straightening process, Hope owner’s Koki suggests Annie cut away part of her damaged hair. While it is sometimes difficult for clients to agree to have their hair cut, Annie decides to trust her top hairstylist and chop off all the damaged hair. At the same time Yuta, Hope’s English-speaking owner prepares the Straight-Cure treatment by mixing one packet of Straight-Cure and one packet of hair treatment. The Straight-Cure treatment is applied methodically on our model’s head. Koki and Yuta separate Annie’s hair into very small parts and apply the product with a brush, a thorough application to ensure a flawless result. The Straight-Cure technique is composed of two main steps. First, hairstylists use the hot hair iron set at a low temperature to compress the premium protein treatment into the hair. Once all hair is straightened, a CMC (cell membrane complex) treatment cream is then applied to seal the hair’s new straight consistency. This ensures a straight and smooth texture.   In order to protect Annie’s hair from damages, the treatment is left in to absorb into our model’s hair while hairstylists ready the hair iron for the straightening process. The temperature is set to 100°C, a very low temperature compared to the standard 160-220°C. To avoid damaging Annie’s hair, Hope’s hairstylists place special plastic protection over each side of the iron plate. They then proceed to straighten our model’s hair, section by section. Straight-Cure Or Traditional Japanese Straightening Method, What Is The Difference? Until a few years ago, traditional permanent Japanese straightening method was very popular. However, the technique requires much time, uses a lot of chemicals that damages hair, and considerably reduces hair volume. What’s more, it doesn’t allow customers to try out other hairstyles – such as bleached highlights, Balayage and digital perm – as the strong chemical reactions required are not compatible with the traditional perm. Straight-Cure is a revolution in the Japanese hair straightening area. With a built-in anti- damage treatment, Straight-cure straightens frizzy hair but doesn’t damage them like a traditional Japanese straight perm. Ms. M proudly holding her “curist” diploma. Guided back to the plush chair, Ms. M blended bergamot oil with some argan oil to make a fragrant concoction for a much-needed twenty-minute head massage. The oils in the massage help to rehydrate and cleanse the scalp of any undesirables. A “curist” is a new Japanese word coined for a specialist in handling the head cure treatment. The knowledge and skill one must acquire in order to be qualified is extensive. The honey packs in all their glory. You have two options – honey with brown sugar  (which is most effective for white hair), and the other, honey with a minty twist. Aging Care and Revitalization of Scalp & Hair The main effect of the head cure is “aging care and revitalization of scalp and hair”. It heals dry and oily scalps just the same and increases the quality of your hair drastically. By stimulating the pressure points on your scalp, temples, and neck, you’ll start to feel relaxed and at the end, rejuvenated. I was spoiled to bits – a trim, blow-drying, brushing, a hot iron and a head full of curls, sprayed with a glossy finish. After a detailed hair analysis by the stylist, it was decided that the digital perm would be the perfect treatment for what she wanted, and he proceeded to prep her hair for the treatment. First, the chemicals were carefully applied to her hair and given time to set. The stylist then did a ‘test curl’ to check how the hair was reacting to the perm process, and to ensure that there would be no hair damage. New York Style Hair Color with Highlights Our next beautiful model is a young Asian-American woman with previously-bleached hair. She came hoping that she could have a fun look without damaging her hair further, and her stylist did everything possible to deliver. The stylist took special care to only apply bleach to her virgin hair, including avoiding folding the foil to keep the application precise. After washing out the bleach, the stylist created the perfect shade of purple to match the photograph our model brought in. After applying the dye to the bleached ends, the end color is an amazing dip-dye/gradation of bright purple!
