She needed a new look—something stylish—and she wanted to neutralize the reds in her hair. She had not been to a salon in several months, and her hair needed a bit of a TLC. Stylists Yukari Katayama and Takahiro Araki suggested a color close to her natural hair color and a cut with feminine bangs that framed her face. This style would look great and be easy for her to maintain in between salon visits. Over 400 Hair Colors to Choose From After Hana agreed, stylist Yukari went to a wall of dyes in the middle of the salon. NORA has over 400 colors and stylists can mix dyes to create custom shades for clients, she told us. She grabbed three bottles and began mixing a custom color. She was making a shade just for the model. Once the color was ready, the stylists began applying the color throughout the Hana’s hair. The dyes they were using were ADDICTCHY, a Japanese professional hair color brand that would give the model shiny, long-lasting color. After checking on the model’s hair, stylist Takahiro Araki said they were ready to wash the dye out. At Hope Salon, the appointment always starts with a consultation where we learn our model Annie hasn’t been to the hairdresser for the past six months. Her hair is damaged and frizzy inside out. Koki and Yuta separate Annie’s hair into very small parts and apply the product with a brush, a thorough application to ensure a flawless result. The Straight-Cure technique is composed of two main steps. First, hairstylists use the hot hair iron set at a low temperature to compress the premium protein treatment into the hair. Once all hair is straightened, a CMC (cell membrane complex) treatment cream is then applied to seal the hair’s new straight consistency. This ensures a straight and smooth texture. In order to protect Annie’s hair from damages, the treatment is left in to absorb into our model’s hair while hairstylists ready the hair iron for the straightening process. The temperature is set to 100°C, a very low temperature compared to the standard 160-220°C. To avoid damaging Annie’s hair, Hope’s hairstylists place special plastic protection over each side of the iron plate. They then proceed to straighten our model’s hair, section by section. Aromatic and All-Natural Haircare by Shigeta Head therapist Sasaki whisked the client to the back and invited her to take a seat at one of the washing stations. As Kristine got comfortable, Sasaki turned towards her arsenal of organic goodies by Shigeta. The brand also produces complementary skincare and detox water. First up was shampoo. Using Shigeta’s Wild Grace Repair Shampoo, the head therapist worked the product into Kristine’s wet hair. Immediately, the salon was filled with the scent of geranium and other botanical extracts. Deep-Treating With Pure Essential Oils With the hair cleansed and rinsed, she moved onto the treatment. During our visit, she proposes a half highlight package using low-maintenance hair coloring to keep our model of the day Daria looking naturally trendy. Personalizing Your Hair Color with a Mix of Coloring Methods Top stylist Ami intentionally combines different coloring techniques, taking a more bespoke approach towards making you feel like your most beautiful self. The experience commences with a consultation, where we shortly learn how our model Daria received her current head of chunky highlights – during a trip to her hometown a few months back. Natura has been featured many times in magazines and on TV. Several celebrities have vouched for them, and have nothing but positive gasps of delight at the results. The locals have also been coming back for more as soon as Natura’s honey pack’s gooey enchantment spread across the neighborhood. Choosing the Right Essential Oils for Your Hair Sinking into a plush chair, I was offered a cool drink (a non-alcoholic one. Frowny face) and asked to choose an essential oil from out of four – lavender, peppermint, rosemary and bergamot. Once selected, my “Curist”, Ms. M, led me to a comfortable Yume (to dream) reclining chair and gently washed and pat-dried my hair, getting all the city dirt and grime out. Ms. M proudly holding her “curist” diploma. Guided back to the plush chair, Ms. M blended bergamot oil with some argan oil to make a fragrant concoction for a much-needed twenty-minute head massage. The oils in the massage help to rehydrate and cleanse the scalp of any undesirables. A “curist” is a new Japanese word coined for a specialist in handling the head cure treatment. The knowledge and skill one must acquire in order to be qualified is extensive. The honey packs in all their glory. You have two options – honey with brown sugar (which is most effective for white hair), and the other, honey with a minty twist. Aging Care and Revitalization of Scalp & Hair The main effect of the head cure is “aging care and revitalization of scalp and hair”. It heals dry and oily scalps just the same and increases the quality of your hair drastically. By stimulating the pressure points on your scalp, temples, and neck, you’ll start to feel relaxed and at the end, rejuvenated. One of the key techniques is something called “push and roll” – push on the pressure points for three to five seconds then roll out the stress, getting the knots out of your system. It also improves headaches such as white hair, hair loss, dandruff, and dryness. In addition, it’ll prompt better blood circulation causing fatigue lines to disappear and boost skin complexion. Definitely, something to queue for. The push and roll technique. The Honey Hair Pack and Sparking Water Shower The beach theme extended into the “shampoo room” as well, leaving me wanting a cocktail all the more. Beach scenes projected onto the big blank wall, giving it a cozy, and yet spacious, feel at the same time. The honey pack (plus a ten-minute head massage and later, a hot steam towel wrapped around your head) was pure delight! I’ll let the photograph below do all the convincing. It really was a treat – a lush and luxurious treat. I chose the “honey with a minty twist” hair pack. The sparkling water shower was a cascade of warm bubbles caressing and repairing. All the minerals in the water being absorbed by the pores and split-ends like a thirsty beast. A sparkling water shower is a luxury you cannot afford to refuse. It was the best of goodbyes. I was spoiled to bits – a trim, blow-drying, brushing, a hot iron and a head full of curls, sprayed with a glossy finish. It was my shot at feeling like a celebrity thanks to Natura and all their lovely stylists! And special thanks to my “curist”, Ms. M. “Thank you!” Look at that glossy finish!
